Business Needs

Meeting your Network needs

Solution

First of all, don’t fall into the trap of throwing more and more bandwidth at the problem. There are alternatives to spending money on ‘bigger pipes’. BT tackles your challenge in a number of ways, from class-of-service guarantees, that ensure you get the network performance you need, to doing more with application performance management tools.

One of our customers, Anglo America, the global mining company, deployed 68 BT Connect Optimisation appliances across its sites, saving millions of Euros over the lifetime of the contract. A large pharmaceutical company more than doubled the volume of traffic on its network, maintaining the application performance it needed without any bandwidth upgrades.

Solution

We have taken many clients from fragmented infrastructure made up of multiple suppliers to a global WAN delivered by a single provider, wrapped in a 24/7 managed service. As the world’s largest IP VPN (Virtual Private Network) provider, we are always improving and expanding our network capability, giving our customers the ability to grow with us. BT IP Connect Global can help you unlock your full business potential and go global by providing you with a single operating platform, spanning 198 countries and territories.

BT is recognised as a leading global network service provider by Gartner and among the most competitive when it comes to MPLS reach. The scale and complexity of your project may be daunting for many providers but fits comfortably within the scope of our capabilities. We have a wide and continually evolving range of competitive access technologies and multiple access supplier partnerships to facilitate right-priced connectivity.

Solution

For organisations running a number of sites with different bandwidth requirements, we would recommend BT Ethernet Connect as a cost-effective product. An intelligent network solution, it is designed for large organisations that want exclusive control over their IP architecture and the freedom to evolve their infrastructure in their own way.

We have a number of network products that can be used to used to replace a point-to-point leased line. NATO opted for BT Ethernet Connect as its backbone, providing bandwidth between 10Mbps and 10Gbps depending on the requirements of each individual site. The outcome was faster and more flexible infrastructure that cost five per cent less than what they were paying before. We take end-to-end responsibility for connectivity, including last mile services procured through local service providers that have demonstrated their ability to meet our exacting service standards.

Solution

BT has a lot of experience taking multinationals and indigenous enterprises on this journey. With larger multinational organisations, we can migrate your network in a phased approach or even run your legacy network in parallel until the move is complete – which is what we did for Danske Bank in Northern Ireland.

For smaller multi-site companies, we can start with a greenfield site, or alternatively, roll it out to larger offices first. Seamlessly managed by BT, the new network is optimised for performance at each location before moving on to the next. Disruption is minimal.

Solution

It is with BT. Recognised as a market leader in customer service and innovation, we always have one eye on the future for our customers. We have invested more than €5.4bn in R&D over the last five years and have a total worldwide portfolio of more than 4,500 patents and applications. We are perfectly positioned to migrate our customers to the latest network technology and advise on upgrades to achieve ongoing competitive advantage.

Most of our major customers are increasingly dependent on hybrid networks and we work with them to align the right solution to the business need – a combination of carrier Ethernet and IP VPN networks for linking multiple sites, for example, and Ethernet to connect the headquarters to a data centre. As a one-stop provider we can organise your networks and prioritise traffic to get you what you want, at the speed you need, at a cost that’s right for you.

Meeting your Hosting & Cloud needs

Solution

You need a partner you can trust to take you on the cloud journey. Nine out of ten of our biggest customers expect to be using not just one but several clouds in the next two years. Yet nearly a third say they need more skills and knowledge to choose the right cloud for the right job and make their various clouds work together securely.

We have the network capabilities that are key to effective cloud delivery and unique global capabilities that facilitate fast and effective entry into new markets. You can leverage this portfolio to retain full control over complex hybrid cloud infrastructure.

Solution

BT Ireland has the expertise to guide you towards a flexible and secure way of computing. We will look at your existing infrastructure and tailor an industry-focused approach that best suits your needs. By giving you confidence and agility in the cloud, BT will help you transform your business, maximising the benefits while minimising the risks.

Along the way, you can expect very tangible benefits. We took Tourism Ireland to a private cloud, for example, consolidating 100 servers down to 40, moving two hardware racks to one, halving its data centre footprint and dramatically reducing its power and cooling costs.

Solution

A lot of public cloud platforms will give you scalability, but they lack the level of control your enterprise demands. BT’s global reach extends across more than 20 global zones – all of which can be controlled through a single pane of glass with our award-winning Cloud Management System (CMS). This allows you to control where your data is and ensures you meet strict organisational rules and jurisdictional laws.

The Genome Institute of Singapore needed to ratchet up computing capacity in real time to deal with terabytes of sequencing data generated by their biomedical research. BT Compute experts worked closely with GIS, and used BT Cloud Compute to create the perfect architecture to manage the institution’s research requirements

Solution

Not at all, we are not proscriptive about hardware or infrastructure. Our specialist engineers are among the most highly certified on the island. We have deep-rooted partnerships with leading vendors such as Cisco, HP and EMC, and the skillsets to accommodate just about any configuration.

When we first built the environment to support Marrakech’s SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) platform, we matched the infrastructure to their needs. The core stack is built on Oracle Solaris, maintained by a Marrakech specialist who works closely with BT. The close partnership has flourished with Marrakech going on to leverage our reputation and expertise for over a decade.

Solution

BT Cloud Compute not only facilitates the migration of multiple systems to a single, centralised platform, it gives you the self-service tools to manage the new environment much more efficiently. Quickly provision new servers; decommission legacy systems that you no longer need.

Norfolk County Council successfully migrated complex infrastructure with BT Cloud Compute and has seen overall productivity improvements as well as a better financial return. All of it was achieved without compromising data security, which is pivotal to a public agency.

Solution

Not with BT. There is a misconception that basic data centre services only require rackspace and power. Even the most rudimentary co-location requirements will, however, benefit from our standards-based approach to hosted solutions. You get the benefits of best practice service and our industry accreditations, all focused on protecting your assets and assuring their performance.

Many of BT’s customers also come to us because of our reputation – MyCloud specifically went with BT because its customers trusted the BT brand – and then stay because of our partnership approach and management capabilities.

Solution

Some of our biggest customers on the island of Ireland are from the public sector. We meet their stringent needs around carrier neutrality, connectivity and power availability, and will modify our standard offerings if it’s required.

HEAnet, which manages Ireland’s national education and research network, rented rack space with us precisely because we could meet their specific needs. We provided initial service design, project management and set-up support, then customised arrangements to give them better control over electricity charges.

Meeting your Communication needs

Solution

First, BT would carry out an analysis on what you have and give you statistical data about performance and call answering that will highlight any problems. With one customer we solved the problems by upgrading to an IP telephony solution and running a centralised call manager cluster out of their data centre.

They now have the benefits of having BT as a one-stop provider. We have a unique ability to slot into the jigsaw of complex global networks and multi-vendor environments, dealing with local service providers and integrating networks into a larger WAN (Wide Area Network). Our customers end up with a communications template that can scale quickly. New offices can be opened in new countries where handsets will be the only additional investment.

Solution

A SIP trunk is an alternative to traditional ISDN services and leased lines, enabling voice calls to be made and received from the public network over an existing IP network. With connectivity managed centrally, services are consolidated so individual sites no longer need dedicated lines.

Reducing the number of dedicated telephone lines drives significant cost savings. One of our customers implemented BT One Voice SIP trunking and saved around £250,000 per annum by routing calls for free over its IP infrastructure.

Solution

You are in safe hands with BT. We have a wealth of experience in IP telephony and manage over 1,000,000 IP handsets worldwide, support over 1.5m managed IPT/Unified Communications users and manage more than 25 million emails and 1.5 million email accounts daily.

For an Irish customer with similar demands, we started by giving them DDI (Direct Dialling In) and ensured resilience with multiple lines over fibre and a radio link. If the fibre goes down the microwave takes over, and vice versa.

Solution

We would recommend centralising all your voice services onto our BT One Voice product. This would not only simplify infrastructure to deliver substantial savings, it would enable collaborative services such as IP telephony and conferencing. We did this for one client that now has web and video conferencing across 130 offices as well as six top-end TelePresence solutions in four major sites.

Using audio conferencing via BT One Voice can save up to 45 per cent over the cost of third-party solutions. Our conferencing services are predominantly cloud-based which means we can deliver them globally. BT One Voice Anywhere enables roaming users to attend conference calls via their smartphones, simply and cost-effectively.

Solution

Culture change is a big part of a Unified Communications deployment. Rather than pursue a “rip and replace” approach, BT migrates customers to a Voice over IP network and Unified Communications in phases.

People have to experience the new tools to see the benefits. We see a recurring pattern where users soon embrace the richer features that the IP system can deliver. Employees with one of our customers were so impressed when voicemail was diverted to their email inbox, for example, that we were asked to a build a gateway so that faxes went the same way.

Solution

The benefits to be realised when working with BT are a combination of saving money and gaining greater efficiency. First, you keep internal calls on the internal network and eliminate call charges. Then you cut the costs of maintaining old PBX systems and paying engineers to come out for “add, moves and changes”.

Another advantage of IP networks and IP telephony is that the infrastructure is flexible and easier to scale, making the business more agile. And with BT as a single point of contact for all your operational support, you have the expertise and experience your business requires to grow.

Solution

There are many benefits that contribute to a return on investment. One BT customer was able to close down some of its facilities with the introduction of flexible working, delivering significant operational cost savings by encouraging more people to work from home.

The same organisation also achieved a 12 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions by using the conference facilities in its Unified Communications platform to reduce the need to travel. Many individual staff also reported a much improved work-life balance, thanks to fewer commutes to work.

Meeting your Contact Centre needs

Solution

Voice remains the customer’s preferred means of making contact, but new channels must be catered for. Webchat is growing fast, allowing people to have a quick and easy “conversation” from a browser or app. Successfully harnessing social media will depend on the strategy of your organisation and its ability to carry out customer conversations on a public platform.

BT Cloud Contact can support your transition to multichannel, giving customers the chance to communicate with you on their own terms. It will enable you to integrate web-based access channels, such as chat, co-browsing, email, voice and call back into your call centres.

Solution

We have customers operating in 40 countries where their customers speak dozens of languages. They use BT Inbound Contact to direct callers from different locations to the right language team in the right contact centre.

This highlights why we are such a strong partner for contact centres. BT Inbound Contact harnesses the reach, intelligence and reliability of our global voice network. You can route your callers all over the world to the most suitable agent, not just for the right language, but also for the level of expertise that’s required to solve a problem.

Solution

It’s always about becoming more efficient, resolving queries quickly to the satisfaction of the customer and the benefit of the business, which avoids wasting time and resources while building closer relationships. Intelligent skills-based routing will continue to be vital and become increasingly sophisticated.

Meeting the demands of multichannel and increasingly mobile customers will be the other challenge. This is why industry experts believe the cloud is the natural destination for contact centres, providing the scale and agility for multichannel and a platform for analytics that will help better understand customers and enhance their experience.

Solution

We do it all the time with BT Cloud Contact, where a one-world number connects millions of global subscribers to hundreds of call agents. One of our customers runs it across a carrier-grade BT network and four global data centres in Asia Pacific, New York, London and Dublin. Customers reach an Interactive Voice Recognition (IVR) system that connects them to an agent with the right language and skills to deal with their query.

BT Cloud Contact has a single intuitive interface that delivers rapid, high quality information with embedded administration and management tools. You can use it to create or modify call routing scripts, agents, queues, teams and sites, increasing agent productivity and responsiveness to customer needs and trends. And you only pay for the number of agents you use.

Solution

Firstly, you free yourself up from the burden of infrastructure investment and ongoing maintenance. Paid for on subscription, you turn your contact centre into an operational cost. Secondly, you avoid the financial risks associated with setting up international contact centres.

We’ve helped a number of multinational customers avoid expensive property costs by opting for BT Cloud Contact. It offers customers the best service, with a local number and local agents, without investing in infrastructure. We leverage BT’s global operations and expertise to deliver levels of security and resilience that our customers simply can’t match.

Solution

By giving your customers the choices they want and making sure there are experts on hand to give them the service they need. BT can do this in a number of ways, by facilitating more self-service, for easily resolved issues, or through intelligent skills-based routing, for more complex issues, provided by BT’s network capability.

This is a win for the business and their customers. The customers are happy because they are dealt with quickly and efficiently. The business benefits because customer satisfaction is achieved with maximum efficiency, benefitting the bottom line. Improved responsiveness using BT Cloud Contact saved one of our customers 30 per cent on their annual bills.

Meeting your Security and Compliance needs

Solution

The good news is that BT is vendor agnostic and able to come in and improve any environment at any stage of maturity. We partner leading vendors like Checkpoint, Cisco and Palo Alto and integrate with many more.

Very often the problem is managing risks in silos with standalone systems, when an integrated approach with standardised operations is needed. BT would move you to a single security platform, where threat monitoring combined with an analytics layer provides the data you need to identify potential attacks and thwart them.

Solution

There are a few things we have in our favour that would have protected you. First, as a global service provider active across more than 180 countries, we were aware of the ranmsomware threat sooner than most and able to make an assessment of how it might impact our customers.

Secondly, we have strong vendor partnerships and work hard with them to ensure our customers are always up to date as far as the latest threats are concerned. In the case of WannaCry, a Microsoft vulnerability in an old operating system was exploited in a way that would have never have happened under the watch of BT’s Managed Security Service.

Solution

The first step is to analyse the risk. We can help calculate what it will cost to be offline and what it would cost to fix the problem. Like an insurance policy, you have to decide if it’s worth paying a premium for something that might never happen. If the case is made, we will start building security infrastructure appropriate to your needs.

This may include our range of BT DDoS mitigation services, available as two connectable components. One part is a cloud service that thwarts high volumes of traffic and mitigates an attack before it hits the customer’s network; the other is an on-premise appliance that negates highly targeted attacks at the application layer. The two approaches can be integrated with the appliance service bursting to the cloud if the device is overwhelmed.

Solution

We have the capability to investigate, resolve and remediate attacks ranging from a single-system compromise to enterprise-wide intrusions that span hundreds of thousands of systems. We carry out detailed forensics to determine the exact cause of an incident and use the information to lock down the vulnerability to make sure it never happens again.

Our core focus is on speed: responding to a security incident as quickly as possible and evaluating how long the attackers have been inside the perimeter. This is important from a compliance perspective. Throughout the process we keep our clients in the loop on how its regulatory responsibilities might be affected.

Solution

Like every kind of security solution a firewall is only as good as its implementation and ongoing management. It’s an attention to detail that makes BT different. To protect your most important asset you must ensure your firewall architecture is expertly implemented, monitored, and maintained.

Products are becoming increasingly feature-rich and sophisticated and there’s a temptation to overcomplicate things. One of BT’s many strengths is to always match the solution to the requirement, as precisely and cost-effectively as possible.

Solution

Yes, we provide a whole range of services that span these areas. Data classification is key to making sure different data sets have appropriate levels of security wrapped around them, while our secure transit and encryption service makes cloud migration and management safe

BT offers customers market-leading capabilities in managed security and cyber protection, and leverages a global ecosystem of partners and solutions to find the best fit for every customer.

Solution

Combining our portfolio capabilities with our strong skill-base, we have anticipated the increasing demand for compliant-related services both here in Ireland and globally. We would work with you to review your requirements to make sure appropriate controls in terms of people, processes and technology are deployed to best meet your needs.

This will help you navigate the risks in moving business processes and applications to the cloud and assess your evolving compliance position. We are used to helping multinationals protect data and intellectual property across highly distributed environments – in the case of the De Beer Group, 28 locations including some very isolated sites.

Meeting your wholesale needs

We work with a wide range of local service providers and global carriers to meet their needs in Ireland and globally.

Solution

IP-based voice traffic is the future, and many carriers are now using IP as there preferred technology, but migrating from your legacy TDM traffic can be a daunting proposition as you strive to ensure your customers experience no service interruptions or quality issues.

BT can help you make a smooth transition to IP voice using our proven global voice platform, and with experts locally in Ireland to help you every step of the way. We can provide you with a dedicated private IP interconnect over an Ethernet circuit to guarantee you the highest level of service, and we also offer a public IP option that uses the public internet to connect your voice network to ours – with the benefit being almost instant set up and lower costs given that you do not need a dedicated physical connection.

Solution

The broadband market for homes and small business services is experiencing radical change with the introduction of fibre optic broadband speeds that bring huge bandwidth to users, enabling them to make use of HD TV streaming, the latest in online gaming and critical applications for businesses. But getting a piece of this market can be a difficult task for service providers.

We have invested heavily in our broadband portfolio and as a result we can offer you the ability to deal with one supplier in BT that provides you use of the latest fibre access services from both Open Eir and Siro, and you can choose from a full white label service or you can manage your own core and ISP services. This allows you to reduce costs and the complexity of dealing with multiple access suppliers, and gives you the flexibility to decide if you want to manage your own traffic or simply focus on sales, marketing and customer service and leave the network to BT.

Solution

The telecoms industry is an ever-evolving ecosystem where service providers need to connect to a range of other networks including their customers, other carriers, IP Transit providers and cloud services. Physically interconnecting your network to all of these different networks can soon see costs spiral upwards and complexity shoot through the roof.

To help you reach the partners that you need we provide a carrier-neutral environment at the BT data centre at Citywest Dublin. We like to think of it as an open marketplace for the industry and we make it quick and easy for you to connect to any other carriers and service providers who are located onsite. And with a specialist team on hand to help you plan your footprint and flexible hands and eyes support – we are here to help you when you need us most.

Solution
